The Phillies are looking to sneak into the postseason.
Well, here we are. After 57 VERY long Philadelphia Phillies baseball games, it all comes down to this. Despite winning 10 out of 11 at one point in time, despite having the second worst bullpen in baseball history, and despite losing countless players to injury, our beloved Phillies are less than one game removed from a postseason appearance.
The Phillies did their best to choke away a playoff position during their four game series with Washington, losing three of four including an 8th inning walk-off at the hands of Brandon Workman. It was a frustrating few days of baseball as it really felt like the Phils were playing themselves out of October baseball.
They bounced back on Wednesday, receiving an incredible eight inning outing via RHP Zach Eflin. Eflin did his part in keeping the bullpen away from the mound, and the offense finally came to life on the back of a Bryce Harper 2 home run outing.
The Phillies head into the weekend staring down a three game series with the Tampa Bay Rays, while also paying close attention to some of the other contending teams around the National League. They no longer control their own destiny, and they’ll have to hope and pray that either the Marlins, Giants, Reds, or Cardinals collapse here late in the season
Recapping the ugly Nats series while also taking a look ahead to the season-defining Rays series is Philly Sports Network‘s own Philadelphia Phillies podcast, the “Bullpen Blues”. Hosted by David Esser and Kevin Dickson, they take you through everything you need to know from this week’s Phillies action.
