In a new series by Philly Sports Network, we will be looking at how each guy on the Flyers’ roster fairs against the round robin and qualifying teams. Each player will be evaluated based on their points per game, as well as other factors such as average time on ice and special teams production. We will be doing this by the order of the standings, with our Boston Bruins analysis first. With this being said, next up is the under the radar Carolina Hurricanes.
#5- Michael Raffl
Michael Raffl is typically a name that flies under the radar. He doesn’t produce on the scoresheet much, however, he contributes night in and night out. His consistent forecheck and availability make him a great depth option for the Flyers. When it comes to the Hurricanes though, Raffl does find himself tallying in the scoring department too. In 24 career games agains the ‘Canes, Raffl has six goals and four assists. One of his goals has come on the power play, too. Raffl may not be the best player on the roster, but his 13:40 average of playing time against Carolina makes due.
#4- Jakub Voracek
There’s a few names that will consistently make their way onto our top performers lists, and Voracek is one of them. Despite what many fans may say about his contract and contribution to the team, Voracek proves those wrong with his production. In 40 games against the Hurricanes, Jakub has played over 17 minutes a night, and has accumulated 31 points (10g, 21a). Along with his veteran presence, Voracek will bring the Flyers a nice spark in a series against the ‘Canes.
#3- Philippe Myers
In his young career, Philippe Myers has already proven that he will be an NHL regular. Nothing changes when looking at his performances against Carolina as well. Myers has three points in his five games played against the ‘Canes. He may be -2 in those games, but he averages nearly 19 minutes of ice time, showing his availability. The most important note, Myers helped the Flyers to a 3-1-1 record in those five games he’s played, proving his importance further.
#2- Travis Konecny-
Konecny has broken out this season. His 61 points in 66 games led the Flyers, and truly displayed his potential. This season in the four games against Carolina, TK has 5 points (2g, 3a). This has been a trend for his career as well, where he has 11 points in 17 games against Carolina. Despite his red hot season coming to a halt due to the season’s suspension, the Flyers will be relying heavily on TK to continue both his season success and success against the Hurricanes.
#1- Claude Giroux
Just like Voracek, Giroux is, and will continue to be, one of the most prominent names in this series. The Flyers can trust Giroux to produce game in and game out, and is easily the best all-around Flyer. For his career, he’s played in 44 games against Carolina. In said games, Giroux has 13 goals and 32 assists, sitting him just over a point-per-game with 45 points. It’s no secret that Giroux will be one of the most important Flyers heading into the resumption of the season, but if the Flyers end up drawing the Hurricanes, his career shows he’ll be putting the team on his back.
