Flyers trade Lecavalier and Schenn to LA Kings

In a trade that has appeared quite literally out of nowhere, the Flyers are reported to have traded Luke Schenn and Vinny Lecavalier to the LA Kings.

The trade will see the Flyers pick up Jordan Weal, a known prospect who was the top scorer in the Calder Cup Playoffs last year and a third round pick for the upcoming draft.

The deal was almost unbelievable when first reported because of the monster salaries that both players haven. Lecavalier has a $4.5 million cap hit for the remaining two and a half years on his deal whilst Schenn was set to be a free agent at the end of this season.

TSN Have just announced that the Flyers will retain 50% of both players salaries which considering the minimal cap space that the Kings possess make this trade seem much more attainable for both teams.

Moving Lecavalier will save the Flyers $0.66million a year for the next two seasons and around  $0.166m in the third year. It also keeps the Flyers clear of a $0.916 buyout penalty buyout penalty.
