The Drexel Dragons gained a huge commitment from Greenforest Christian Academy star Lamar Oden Jr. He is a high level 2020 small forward with elite athleticism. He can play both ends of the floor with great energy and possesses evolving all-around skills. I talked to the 6-6 180 lbs forward about his commitment to the Drexel Dragons and more for Philly Sports Network.
LJ: How do you like Philly? Have you had a chance to visit the city?
Lamar: I love it; I’ve always dreamed of playing in a big city and wanted to use this opportunity. The coaching staff gave me a welcoming tour of the city and I was very pleased with the environment.
LJ: What has the Drexel coaching staff told you about your future with the program?
Lamar: They believe I would fit perfectly in their system with an immediate impact.
LJ: What coach recruited you from Drexel? What stood out about your visit to Drexel?
Lamar: From the jump, it felt like the whole coaching staff was recruiting me, but mainly coach Justin Jennings and head Coach Zach Spiker.
LJ: You come from Georgia. Explain how big the competition is in Georgia high school basketball?
Lamar: Georgia basketball is exactly what everyone thinks it is. It’s full of competition and great players all around. Truly the best basketball state in my opinion and because of all the stars coming out of Georgia, they shadow the underdogs as myself.
LJ: What has been the toughest prospect you have played? What were your stats against that prospect?
Lamar: I played against Jalen Green and team why not, and I had 17 points 3 rebounds
LJ: What were averages last season?
Lamar: 19 pts 8 rebs 3 asts 2 stls 1.5 blks
LJ: Why did you choose to commit to Drexel?
Lamar: I loved the environment, atmosphere, and the people.
LJ: Making the move from Georgia to Philly, what’s the difference to you?
Lamar: The biggest differences are I’m away from my family and the weather change!
