It’s been a busy week for the Philadelphia Eagles. Hard at work to fortify the roster ahead of the NFL Draft, the team opted to go all-in on prying star cornerback Darius Slay from the Detroit Lions, making him the highest-paid player at his position.

Slay joins the Eagles on a three-year deal and wasted no time in stating his intentions – taking to Instagram to send a message to fans in the City of Brotherly Love.

On Saturday, Slay went one step further to connect with the Eagles fanbase. During an ‘Instagram Live’, the 29-year old announced his jersey number for the coming season would be #24.

That number is symbolic globally with the legacy of NBA Legend Kobe Bryant, a native of Philadelphia who Slay intends to honor.

The last Eagle to wear #24 on Defense was Safety Corey Graham. it was assumed that Slay would likely have to pick a new number due to the fact that Rodney McLeod currently holds #23. Slay decided the best route to go down was the one closest to the hearts of everyone in his new City, and the man he grew up idolizing.
