Josh Richardson’s concussion adds to Sixers’ Injury Woes

The Sixers just can’t seem to catch a break. First, Ben Simmons pinches a nerve. Then, Joel Embiid sprained his left shoulder. Now, Josh Richardson has been diagnosed with a concussion after colliding with Alec Burks against the LA Clippers.

Richardson has a well-documented injury history so one can only imagine just how frustrating this is for him. A fierce competitor, Richardson’s spark will be missed while he is out. The Sixers did an impressive job in Richardson’s absence but for a team in the middle of a playoff hunt, losing three out of five starters is not ideal. Either Matisse Thybulle or Furkan Korkmaz will likely step into the starting lineup for Richardson.

Already suffering from a lack of depth, the Sixers will have to rely even more on youth and new additions. The young Sixers have already seen a role increase, to ask of more is unfair but the reality of this depleted team. Brett Brown should look to increase (and define) the roles of Alec Burks and Glenn Robinson III while Elton Brand should look into the buyout market.

Here’s a shortlist of current free agents the Sixers should look into:

Allen Crabbe

Dion Waiters

Tyler Johnson

Isaiah Thomas

If the Sixers are looking to add a bit of size, Anthony Toliver would be a wise choice.

As for Richardson, there is no current timetable for Richardson but he will be re-evaluated tomorrow. Until then, the Sixers and their fan base will have to wait with bated breath for positive news.
