Takeaways from Villanova’s impressive win over Richmond

Villanova PA: We had a very interesting game in the CAA on Saturday afternoon as the 6-3 Villanova Wildcats (3-3 in the CAA) took on the 5-4 Richmond Spiders (4-1 in CAA) from Villanova Stadium/

The Wildcats came away with a huge win by taking down Richmond 35-28 & below are some takeaways from the game.

Villanova would get the ball to start the game and would return the opening kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown This was first time that the Wildcats scored a touchdown on an opening kickoff since the 2010 season.

In the first quarter, Richmond had no passing yards. Their first pass of the game would go for a touchdown, extending their lead to 21-14 in the second quarter.

The story of the first half wax the running game for both teams, Richmond had 201 yards while the Wildcats had 123 yards.

In the fourth quarter with Richmond up 28-21, the Wildcats would drive down the field and at first they thought they would have touchdown but after review, the referee said it was an incomplete pass. But on the very next play, the Wildcats would run it in to tie the game at 28 with 11:45 left in fourth.

It would only take two plays for the Wildcats to retake the lead at 35-28 and the defense would make some huge plays down the stretch.

At halftime, Villanova honored the 2009 team that won the NCAA Championship

With the win, the Wildcats are now 7-3 (4-3 in CAA) and will get ready for a battle against Long Island on November 15, while Richmond is now 5-5 (4-2 in CAA) will look to rebound from this game as they take on James Madison on November 16.
