Five ‘bargain bin’ cornerbacks who could bolster Eagles secondary

Tyler Patmon

It’s not the Jags corner fans want, but Patmon spent last season working alongside Jalen Ramsey, notching 14 tackles in 12 games. However, he’s struggled to find a permanent home.

The 28-year old has bounced around the league but as we know by now, the Eagles seem to have an affinity for former Jaguars players (Cc: Malik Jackson, Stefen Wisniewski, Cody Kessler, dare I say, Jalen Ramsey?!).

He’s nowhere near the biggest name out there, but I watched the Dolphins preseason game against New Orleans and he played relatively well, coming up with a stop at the goal-line. That’s not to say he’s going to be an all-pro anytime soon, but unlike the first CB’s mentioned, he has recent experience at the NFL level which could swing the pendulum in his favor.

Even if it’s just for a tryout or to fill a void on special teams for a week, Patmon will be cheap, cheerful, and someone that has experience in several different schemes.

Jamalcolm Liggins

This name will ring a few bells, and it should. Liggins spent the offseason in Philadelphia after going undrafted but was waived in order to make way for an offensive lineman by the name of Brett Toth.

During his career at Dickinson State, Liggins competed in 43 games, tallying 151 tackles and three touchdowns. In the first round of the NAIA championship series in 2018 alone, Liggins had four interceptions for 91 yards. He has 13 career picks to his name. That kind of production simply raises eyebrows. And when you partner that with a 6’3, 210 lbs, defensive back, that turned into heart eye emojis for a lot of scouts.

Liggins flashed some of that ball-hawking skillset during the preseason, too. He most recently worked out for the Jets (cough, cough, week 5 intel) and if you put him inside the 20-yard line alongside Rasul Douglas, the size alone makes him an intimidating matchup, even if the rest of his game needs polish.

This move makes sense on several different levels given his familiarity with the team and scheme.
