The “Woo’s,” are heard throughout the lower bowl at pretty much every Flyers game. Ever since Travis Konecny yelled, “Woo,” a few years ago as he was leaving the ice during a game, it has become a staple for Flyers fans. When Konecny talks, hits, pots a goal, yaps, or even sings with his good ole pal
Konency is in a world of his own these days. For instance, in the Stadium Series show “Wired,” Konecny was overheard calling Evgeni Malkin an “F’in-Nerd.” Either way Konecny is an electrifying player. It’s like he’s doing the electric slide all night long on the ice.
This young stud in Konecny has been everything and then some in the second half of the season. It’s great to see that Head Coach Scott Gordon trusts Konecny, as he has seen some time on the first power play unit because of injuries, “Yeah, we’ll see how it pans out, I have no idea, but we’ll see as it keeps going on here,” Konecny said.
Konecny does a little bit of everything, and he does it well. He will chip in on the power play, lay a big hit, block shots, and most of all do anything to help the team win. Featured on a line with JVR and Nolan Patrick, Konecny needs just two goals, and three points with 13 games remaining to equal his career-highs set just last year. He blasted 24 goals and chipped in 23 assists for a career-high 47 points last season. However, this season Konecny has potted 22 goals, has 22 assists, issued out 53 hits, blocked 36 shots, and has a plus-1 rating. Simply put, Konecny is doing it all, as he’s learning the game the right way.
His stats show he’s lethal, but it’s intriguing to know that Konecny will play on either wing, which really shows his versatility. Konecny has filthy hands, and has learned to play a real smart game. He wanted to shake the rust off after a coaching change, and also with a new General Manager…and boy has he ever done it. Konecny has a new found attitude, and it appears to be rubbing off on his teammates. Check out this clip from the Stadium Series:
“Hey, atta boy, Johnson. Atta boy! You eating that up? Karma is a f***ing b****, eh? Eat up, bud, eat up,” Konecny says.
Someone had to replace the toughness and grit that was lost with trading a beloved Flyer in Wayne Simmonds. Well, Konecny has done that, and he will not let the Flyers be bullied by any means. Simmonds would be proud of Konecny, as Konecny is ready to tussle with whomever he can get his hands on, when the time sees fit of course.
Konecny is becoming a future great in Philadelphia. His heart and soul has won over the proud orange clad fans of Philadelphia. It’s great to see just how hard this young man works on a nightly basis. Konecny’s unselfish play is starting to win over his coaches, and he is being rewarded with an expanded role. Remember Flyers fans, the future is bright in Flyer land.
