Dont’e Thornton is an elite 2021wide receiver prospect. At 6’4 180 he can burn receivers down the field and is strong enough out muscle defenders. The Mount St. Joseph high school star is one of the best red zone targets in his class. Thornton recently was the first commitment for the Penn State Nittany Lions in the 2021 class. We talked about his commitment and more.
LJ: You are an impressive receiver. What do scouts like about your skill set the most?
Dont’e: Most scouts like that I’m a big fast receiver because it causes a lot of matchups.
LJ: What made you commit to Penn State so early? What stood out the most about the Nittany Lions?
Dont’e: I felt the family atmosphere from all the players and coaches and that encouraged me to make bonds with everyone and that made me very comfortable with my decision.
LJ: When do you plan to take another visit?
Dont’e: Right now I don’t know when but very soon.
LJ: What do you like about new wide receivers coach Gerard Parker?
Dont’e: I like the fact that Coach Gerard is a great person outside of being a coach and I’ve built a bond with him that I plan on keeping for the rest of my life.
LJ: What coach has been recruiting you?
Dont’e: Coach Tyler Bowen
LJ: How committed are you to Penn State?
Dont’e: 100% committed it would take a lot to change my mind.
LJ: What were your stats last season?
Dont’e: 960 yards, 51 receptions, 13 touchdowns.
LJ: What makes you such an impact receiver on the field?
Dont’e: I believe that I’m very big match up problem anywhere on the field because I can beat a DB deep down the field and go up over top.
LJ: Penn State is known for its great receiving core and how they make them better for the next level. This upcoming season what will Penn State coaches see from you that has improved the most?
Dont’e: They will see me get bigger and stronger and become a more explosive wide receiver that can play anywhere on the field.
LJ: What other schools are recruiting you the most?
Dont’e: Syracuse and Pitt
LJ: Any schools that has not given you an offer keeping in contact?
Dont’e: Not that I know of.
