Philadelphia: As 2018 comes to a close and so does nonconference play in College Basketball and that is what we had on Saturday afternoon as the Saint Joseph’s Hawks took on Wagner Seahawks from Hagan Arena on the campus of Saint Joseph’s University. Saint Joseph’s comes into the game with a 6-5 record and off a dramatic win vs Loyola Chicago on December 22 while Wagner enters battle with the Hawks with a 5-5 record and off a win over Hartford.
There was a 20-minute delay to start the game as the Clocks were not working. The Hawks would score the games first 4 points of the game before Wagner got on the board with 3 pointer. Wagner would go on a 7-0 to cut the Hawks lead to 1 at 12-11. Wagner would have a 6 point lead at 20-14 with 7:51 left. Wagner brought the fight to the Hawks in the first half. Wagner took a 28-25 lead into halftime.
At halftime, the Hawks would honor their players from the past and one of them was Jameer Nelson

Hawks start the 2nd half with Charlie Brown basket & foul, Wagner would keep the pressure on the Hawks the entire game and make things hard. Wager would tie the game at 38 with 13:52 left. There would be a stretch in the 2nd half were both teams would make back to back to back 3 pointers. Hawks would have 6 point lead at the under 4 media timeout. Wagner got the lead down to 2 with 1:10 left. The Hawks would play good defense and they would hold on for 59-57 win.
With the win, the Hawks are now 7-5 on the season & now head into Atlantic 10 conference play on January 3 vs George Mason while Wagner falls to 5-6 on the season & they will go into Northeast conference play against Central Connecticut state also on January 3.
