Injury report: Eagles could be without three running backs on Sunday

The Eagles have released their final injury report of the week and when it comes to the backfield, it doesn’t look good.

OUT:
RB Jay Ajayi (back), RB Darren Sproles (hamstring)

Questionable:
RB Corey Clement (quadricep), LB Kamu Grugier-Hill (groin), WR Alshon Jeffery (shoulder), T Jason Peters (quadricep)

Ajayi and Sproles are both listed as out which in itself is a huge loss for the Birds. Doug Pederson will be forced to rely on Wendell Smallwood and Josh Adams against the Colts’ defense, especially if Corey Clement, who missed time in the preseason with an injury, is also out after being listed as questionable on Friday.

The Eagles running backs averaged just 3.8 yards per carry against the Bucs due to the absence of Ajayi, but things just don’t seem to be clicking. With the Brit, their main pass-catching back and potentially their third-down back all sidelined, that doesn’t look like it will change any time soon.

It’s also notable that Kamu Grugier-Hill and Jason Peters are questionable. KGH dominated Training camp to earn the ‘WILL’ starting role and has since shown flashes of brilliance that were cemented by special teams play. Peters missed time on Sunday due to an injury and Big V struggled mightily on his first taste of NFL action since Super Bowl 52.

As for Alshon Jeffery, he’s not yet been cleared for contact. A miraculous return seems a little out of the equation as of today.

It’s safe to say the Eagles could be fairly banged up this weekend and it will be down to Carson Wentz to provide that spark the unit so desperately needs.
