The Eagles have released their first injury report of the week and there is plenty to take note of ahead of the team’s divisional matchup with the Giants.

DE Derek Barnett (groin), TE Zach Ertz (concussion), LB Joe Walker (neck)

Perhaps the biggest takeaway is that Zach Ertz has cleared concussion protocol and is back practicing with the team, ready for a situation where he will be needed more than ever. Ertz has had a phenomenal season and has 663 yards, second to only Alshon Jeffery who has been targeted 19 times more. The presence over the middle of the field will be vital for Nick Foles, who threw the Stanford product’s first ever touchdown during his rookie year. The Eagles may not have missed Ertz from a statistical standpoint due to the emergence of Trey Burton, but having a red zone weapon who has 7 touchdowns to his name is going to inject a huge boost.

The other offensive news is that Stefen Wisniewski missed practice with an ankle injury. The good news is that Doug Pederson told reporters today that Wis “should” be ready for Sunday, so perhaps this is just a precautionary approach. Isaac Seumalo and Chance Warmack were pushed back onto the warfront against the tenacious Rams defense and it was safe to say that the left side of the line wobbled. Getting Wis back would be massive for the Eagles.

Rodney McLeod was the lone “limited participant’ with a quad injury and is coming off of a stretch of inconsistency. Missing tackles frequently, McLeod tends to make up for lows with some scintillating highs and has been a strong source of production for the Eagles backline of defense, allowing Malcolm Jenkins to drop down into the box. With 36 tackles and 3 picks, McLeod has continued to thrive in this wide-nine scheme.

Joe Walker is practicing again after missing two consecutive games with a neck injury. The hole at linebacker hasn’t been a drastic position of weakness all of a sudden, thanks largely to the play of both Bradham and Kendricks who have negated the weak depth. Walker would give the Eagles some much needed optionality if able to return.

The Elephant in the room however is the arrival of Sidney Jones. It’s not yet clear whether or not Jones will suit up for the Eagles this season, but he has started to practice with the team for the first time since being drafted earlier this year.

Sidney Jones is set to return to practice this week, but will he suit up for the Eagles this year?
