Todays Small School prospect, Trevin Huff, is not going to tell you what he is capable of. He will not get into the locker room screaming and yelling, trying to get his team pumped up. What OG Trevin Huff lacks in overall “RaRa mentality”, he definitely makes up for, with pure talent and determination.
We sat down with the Bethune-Cookman prospect recently to learn a little more about him.
“I want to be the best, I am not going to waste my time sitting here and telling you, what I can do, or can’t do. I am going to go out and give it to you, I am going to take every ounce of my skill set, my strength and my want to be great…..and dominate my opponent.”
The 6’4, 305 lbs, monster is someone you would call ‘Direct”. As we sat down to talk and catch up about the last few months, the soft spoken giant, wasted no time expressing his feelings.
“The draft process has been crazy, but if I were to get too high, or too low for any reason, I would be wrong. I am not going to say I know what I am doing with it all, but I can say, what I am in control of, I focus on.
I hear people talk about Bethune-Cookman and how it’s a small school. It doesn’t bother me, I know what I am capable of, I know what I need to work on. The things I do well, or my coaches say I do well, I continue to work on. I don’t want to be comfortable, I understand what people think of small school, but we ball.”
A natural talent, Huff, is blessed with the speed and athleticism to get out in front of runners and block downfield. He has a thick base, and strong arms to help keep defensive linemen off of his body.
We asked what he thought his biggest weakness was? and if he could describe himself in a word, what would it be?
“If anything, I want to better at everything, all the time. I think if we aren’t trying to get better, then we are wrong, we should always try to be a better version of our self.”
As far as the one word, he used to describe himself?
“Reliable”
We contacted two different coaches, at Bethune-Cookman and that seemed to be the theme, of the conversation, with one going on to say, “He has always been someone we can count on”.
The Eagles, are blessed with a girth of talent on the Offensive line. Despite this, the team know all too well how bad things can get in a hurry, so adding someone with Huff’s, talent and mindset could only be a good thing, as he has the real potential to be a difference maker for years to come.
“Bottom line, all I really want is a chance, a real opportunity, to prove myself everyday. To show I belong, and not only belong, but I can be a contender, and help my team, my new city, win a lot of games and hopefully a championship one day.”
Trevin Huff may never blow you away with some motivational speech. He will never be the guy, you will catch running his mouth before or after a game, but what you do get with Huff, is a 6’4, 305 lbs, athlete, who will outwork anyone in front of him. That attitude is synonymous, with the city of brotherly love, add that to his pure talent, and you have a real star in the making.
