The East-West Shrine game is just over a week away and while there will be plenty of prospects to keep an eye on, the Eagles will also have a member of their coaching staff involved in the event. Running backs coach Duce Staley will be the East team’s offensive coordinator next weekend, calling the shots and getting his first taste of play-calling.

Joining Staley, will be Press Taylor and Dino Vasso. Taylor is currently an assistant QB coach while Vasso is an assistant secondary coach. They both look after quality control of their side of the ball and will join the East team coaching staff.

Staley was drafted by the Eagles back in 1997 and went on to spend seven seasons with the Eagles, rushing for 4,807 yards in Midnight Green. He returned to Philly in 2010 as an intern and climbed the coaching ladder, eventually being named as the running backs coach in 2013.

It’s not only a great opportunity for Staley to find out first hand just what an Offensice coordinator goes through, but will be invaluable when it comes to his own future. Frank Reich was thought to be a coaching target during the offseason for Buffalo and if the Eagles were ever in a position where they needed someone to step up to the plate, having a coach who has worked within the Eagles organization for several years AND has play-calling experience will be a huge bonus.

The Eagles could also be in the market for a running back during the offseason..and this will give one of the Eagles most prolific rushers of all time a chance to get an early look at some of the talent that could well be on the Eagles draft board this year, adding even more to the intense scouting process.

The Shrine game takes place next Saturday at 3PM EST and will be streamed on NFL Network.
