The Philadelphia Eagles brought back one of their bright spots during training camp and preseason in cornerback, Aaron Grymes, according to his agency.

The team re-signed the cornerback due to losing nickel cornerback, Ron Brooks, for the rest of the season due to injury.

Grymes was waived by the team with an injury settlement during the final preseason cuts. Grymes suffered a separation of his AC joint in his shoulder after securing an end zone interception versus the Pittsburgh Steelers and hasn’t suited up in a game since.

Formerly of the Edmonton Eskimos, Grymes had 8 interceptions during his three year career in the CFL, with 4 of them coming in 2015. According to Bleacher Report he ran a 4.6 40-yard dash time in 2013. The defensive back recorded a total of 101 tackles during his time with the Eskimos, 43 of them accumulated in his career year in 2015.

Prior to his CFL career, Grymes played for Idaho College and eventually  worked out with the Cardinals and the Titans back in January. This led to his arrival in Philadelphia, before impressing the Coaching staff consistently throughout Training camp. From interceptions to some hard hits, it was clear his experience in a professional Football League paid dividends as he soared up the depth chart. Grymes made his presence felt on the field during preseason as well, making several big plays and attracting attention.

The Eagles are thin at cornerback now with Brooks heading to injured reserve with a torn quad tendon. Rookie free agent out of North Dakota State, cornerback, C.J. Smith, looks to be active on game day’s now replacing Brooks. The Eagles brought Smith up from the practice squad after Lane Johnson’s suspension was announced and he’s been inactive in three games.

Grymes knows the Eagles playbook, so this signing should come as no surprise. He’ll likely be inactive on game days, but give the Eagles reliable depth at cornerback position given the up-and-down health status of Leodis McKelvin.
