We learned that the team had released undrafted standout Paul Turner earlier today, but now the Eagles confirm that they have waived another preseason standout in C.J Smith.
The former NDSU teammate of Carson Wentz had a brilliant preseason, leading his team in tackles against the Colts and coming down with a clutch interception against the Buccaneers. Smith was able to separate himself from the likes of JaCorey Shepherd and Denzel Rice to earn himself a roster spot after a very crowded battle.
Paul Turner had the best preseason of any Eagles receiver, leading his team in receiving yards in numerous occasions and rapidly emerging as the most reliable pair of hands. The birds signed Bryce Treggs earlier today and unfortunately, while Turner was brilliant, he was still the receiver at the bottom of the pile. The Eagles hope to sign Turner to the practice squad, but there’s no guarantee he will make it.
The waiving of Taylor Hart is hardly surprising. The Eagles were shopping him on the trade block in previous weeks and seemingly want to go in a new direction at the backup DT spots, developing players such as Destiny Vaeao.

The Eagles have also added five players to their practice squad:
