The Eagles announced on social media this morning that they have officially signed Running back Darren Sproles to a one-year contract extension, keeping him in Philadelphia through 2017.

The veteran running back was in his contract year prior to the extension, but the 33 year old will now likely play a pivotal role in the success of Doug Pederson’s committee backfield.
Veteran RB Darren Sproles was set to earn $3.5M this year, but the #Eagles moved more some money into 2016 with his $4.5M extension.

Regarded as one of the finest “swiss army knife” players in the league, Sproles leads all running backs in all-purpose yards and both receiving TDs and receiving yards. With Pederson’s backfield placing such a high emphasis on versatility..it makes sense to keep Sproles around for another year.
In the absence of Ryan Mathews, Sproles took the first team RB reps in yesterdays practice.
In 2015, Sproles rushed for 317 yards and 3 touchdowns, as well as receiving for 388 and 1 touchdown.
