The Eagles released Travis Long earlier today leaving them with a vacant roster spot heading into tomorrow’s first full-team practice. That spot is now filled however with the Eagles announcing the signing of Wide receiver David Watford on social media.
#Eagles sign WR David Watford. RB Ryan Mathews placed on Active/Non-Football Injury List. He suffered an ankle injury training last week.

#EaglesCamp roster at 90. Jon Dorenbos only player to not report, but was excused and is scheduled to reunite with the team on Thursday.

David Watford was a QB at Hampton, but participated with the #Eagles as a receiver in the rookie minicamp earlier this spring.

David Watford worked out as a Wide Receiver back in the Spring, as noted by the Eagles. In 10 games last season, Watford threw for 21 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, completing 53% of his passes. The numbers weren’t stellar but Kyle Washington who also tried out, Watford has some impressive athletic traits.
At 6’2 and 212 pounds, Watford has the tangibles to become a big-body receiver in the right environment. With a 38″ vertical and a 4.56 40-yard dash..the Eagles search for steady hands continues. Watford has the frame to try out for the “flex” position alongside Washington and it’s interesting to see how the two compare.
Ryan Mathews has notably been placed on the Active/ Non-Football Injury list after sustaining an ankle injury during training last week. What does this mean for tomorrow? Expect Kenjon Barner, Wendell Smallwood and Byron Marshall to all see an increase in reps as the competition in the backfield really begins to heat up.
The good news is, the injury doesn’t appear to be that serious.
Just a sprained ankle for Ryan Mathews injured while working out in SD https://t.co/ieYipKAytd

Eagles place Ryan Mathews on non-football injury list (ankle). Source says NOT serious. He'll miss practice tomorrow. Should be back soon.

No exact timetable for return, but the expectation is RB Ryan Mathews will miss days — not weeks — after ankle injury suffered last week.
