Frank Reich is the new Eagles Offensive Coordinator, per report

According to Eagles Beat Writer Tim McManus, the birds have officially signed Frank Reich as their new Offensive Coordinator.

There are both surprising and unsurprising elements of this. The most surprising being that Pat Shurmur is seemingly going to leave the organization without much in the way of negotiation despite the fact he interviewed for the Head Coach role.

However Shurmur is set to interview with the Rams which has suggested this door has been open for a while. Reich has been rumoured to be the favourite to take the new position for a few days now and the former Chargers Offensive Coordinator was actually briefly teammates with Doug Pederson back in Carolina.

Reich was fired by the Chargers back in early Januart  after his Offense slipped to 26th in points per game. The same offense ranked inside the top half of the league in yards before dropping to 20th a year later.

The 54 year old spent two seasons with the Chargers but also has two seasons of play-calling experience which strangely is more than new Head Coach Doug Pederson. A former position coach for both the Colts and Cardinals, Reich has spent plenty of time working with some of the brightest stars in the league and can definitely take some of the praise for Phillip Rivers and his big numbers.

It remains unseen if Shurmur will sign with the Rams, interview elsewhere or even remain in Philly..but Reich was in Philadelphia for his interview today which makes these reports most likely true.
