Thank you: Happy Holidays from Philly Sports Network

In February of this year, I decided to make this website as something to do in my spare time. As a Motorsport commentator and passionate Philadelphia Sports fan I thought it would be a dream come true to combine my two passions. Being in the UK, the market for US sports whilst growing, is still limited..and I was in no position to chance my luck at building a career over in the states and thus, Philly Sports Network was born.

In the first few weeks, all I heard was “what does a 20 year old kid from the UK know about Philly sports? How does he understand the culture? What credibility does he have?” 9 months, 400,000 views and over 800 articles later we have become the fastest growing Philadelphia sports news site on the planet…and it’s all because of you.

I lost a relationship, stayed up until 5AM writing when I had work at 7AM that day, missed special occasions to build up new relationships with people inside the media and teams and put everything I have into this website..because I’ve never been so confident in something succeeding.

This year has been incredible and the people I’ve met along the way have played a vital role in that. From the Sons Of Ben to some of the Eagles die hards, beat writers to players, the sassy Flyers fans and the Sixers 24-7 loyal, I am beyond thankful for every single person I’ve come across this year.

Being so far away can be tough..but because of guys like Jeffery Mitchell, Mark Cole, Joey DiBenedetto, Brad Wechsler, the admins of Birdgang and many more..I feel like family and that is such a humbling feeling.

To anyone that’s written articles for this site so far (you know who you are) I honestly appreciate it more than you know and hope that you stay with us through the new year. It’s going to be one hell of a ride. (If you want to get involved check the jobs section)

There’s nothing more rewarding than watching people debate my work, sharing it, agreeing, disagreeing, complimenting or insulting, seeing this site go from a side project blog to a site featured on Bleacher Report and NJ.com has been absolutely phenomenal.

We’ve come a long way this year. We’ve interviewed players, been featured on national television and on major sports sites and are finally beginning to be taken seriously. But it’s just the beginning.

Next year I am to get out to Philadelphia and take this site to the next level. From YouTube features to live match commentary, merchandise and competitions to exclusive discounts and events..I want this site to not only be something fresh on the scene, but  a site that starts a revolution in sports reporting.

I would not be in this situation without any of you and want to personally thank every single person who has even done so much as clicked on a link..shared a story, discussed one or even slated it..it means so much to me and I am blessed to be in this position. I’m not a religious man, but after this year I can’t help but feel there is someone watching over me guiding me in the right direction and for that I am also truly grateful.

I want to wish you all a happy holidays and a fantastic new year. Have an amazing time, appreciate the people around you and I hope that you all feel truly happy with your life..because as someone that has only really found some self belief and confidence this year, you can’t put a price on that.

I hope you all have a fantastic start to the new year. Thank you for joining me on this journey..this year we made a statement…next year we change the game.

From the bottom of my heart,

Thank you.

Liam Jenkins.
