With the news of Miles Austin’s release from the team yesterday, many fans expected the 57295th signing of Julian Vandervelde. But this time, the Eagles threw a curveball in signing Steven Means from the Texans practice squad.

Means worked out with the team earlier this year but no move came to fruition.

The 25 year old played for the Bucs in his rookie season and amassed three tackles in the ten games that he played. He has bounced around practice squads after being waived by the Bucs in 2014 but now the 263 pounder finds a new home in Philadelphia.

Means will become the fifth OLB on the roster bu could well see more snaps than Marcus Smith or even be seen as a potential replacement depending on how the new number 51 performs. It remans uncertain just how soon we will see the 2013 draft class linebacker in action, but it could be sooner than first thought.
