After a week of speculation and hope..it’s been confirmed. Former D.C United Midfielder and MLS All Star Chris Pontius has signed with the Philadelphia Union.

The Union posted a press release just moments ago that is available to read here.

In the release, Union technical director Chris Albright was quoted as saying the following:

“We believe Chris is an excellent addition to our first team and organization, his ability, experience and winning mentality will help lead our club in the right direction in 2016.”

Details on the signing remain minimal as of right now but we will be sure to post all updates as soon as they are made available to the public.

The 28 year old eded the season with three goals in 23 games having started 17 but brings with him a wealth of much needed post-season experience.

Pontius has appeared in six post-season games as well as winning the US Open Cup and being named in the MLS best XI back in 2012 after he scored 12 goals and racked up four assists en route to his career season.

Pontius is an exceptional addition to the Union roster and a player that fans can easily get excited about. It’s still early days of the MLS Off-season with Free Agents able to first talk to interested parties from tomorrow onwards..but the signs are looking bright.
