The Eagles have announced who the team will pay tribute to this weekend when the Bucs roll in to town and it’s none other than the 1980 NFC Champions and runners up of Superbowl XV, coached by none other than Dick Vermeil.
The team will be featured in the gameday magazine and focus on how the legendary coach carved a winning culture. The playoff appearance that season was the third in a row under Vermeil and saw the city take on a new identity.
The team didn’t have star power, they didn’t have intimidating names..but what they did have was a leader who could not only motivate but get every last drop of sweat, every last bit of effort his players had.
The Eagles started that year by winning their opening eleven games and ended with a 12-4 record, winning the NFC East for the first time since its formation.
Jaws himself was the man leading the Offense and helped to instil the toughness and sheer aggressive passion that the Eagles rapidly became known for. The fans were on the same level as the players and emotions often rose through the roof.
The team will be honoured this Sunday (during halftime and prior to kickoff, official details to come soon).
