Could Nelson Agholor and Jordan Matthews make Eagles history?

It’s no lie that the world is itching to see what Nelson Agholor can do on an NFL field. His recent interview not only showed his appreciation and love for his city and team but certainly made him a fan favourite. Meanwhile Jordan Matthews took the Linc by storm last season by totalling 872 yards in his rookie season. The question is, can they become the first Wide Receiver Tandem in Eagles history to both hit 1,000 receiving yards?

The answer is simply..they have every chance to do so and do it this season.

Maclin and Jackson are the only Eagles receivers to rack up 800 yards over consecutive seasons, making them the most successful tandem in the teams history. But now they’re gone, the Eagles have two 22-year-olds who are bursting with talent, both were picked by Chip kelly..a coach that has his highly unique Offense ranked inside the top 5 in the league not once, but in both seasons he has been in charge of the birds

Last season and Jeremy Maclin ‘s lone season under Kelly’s reign, he put up 1318 yards, a career record. To put it in perspective, in 2012 under the reign of Andy Reid Maclin only received for 857 yards..461 less than in his lone season with Kelly.

Agholor put up 1313 yards in his last season at USC. 53 yards more than Maclin put up in his senior year and almost double what DeSean Jackson received for in his. Why people are excited is that Agholor is the closest thing to both Jackson and Maclin that the team have seen thus far. Matthews had a huge year and is naturally going to be targeted a lot, people are expecting that and will put a lot more effort into covering him. Nelson however, is still unproven. The moment he can exploit some of the slower corners in the game, or perhaps let Matthews lure them away, Agholor will explode. He’s far too dangerous to be left unmarked and the moment he gets free it’s away to the races.

Jordan Matthews is set to have a huge season and Nelson Agholor has the potential to have a season just as impressive, if not more than Jordan’s rookie season. Sam Bradford has perhaps two of the most dangerous weapons in the league right now in terms of longevity. The likes of Julio and Roddy, Megatron and Tate are ageing. The next generation is coming, and with these 22 year olds signed to multi year deals, they may not only make Eagles history, but indeed be the long term future for this receiving core.
