Freddy Adu returns to US Soccer

After much distaste from Union fans, they got the answer they wanted. Freddy Adu is indeed returning to the US but he will not be playing for the Philadelphia Union. Adu has signed with NASL side The Tampa Bay Rowdies.

There was a lot of speculation surrounding Adu and a potential return to his former club. The 26 year old has been given another shot at kicking off a career after being touted as the next Pele but until now has somewhat under performed.

His time at the Union was somewhat disappointing. He scored seven goals in 35 matches and whilst his time at PPL Park saw him return to the U.S. Men’s National Team in 2011, he then went on to Brazil, Serbia and a fourth division Finnish side before his Tampa signing. His work ethic has quite often been questioned but there is no doubting his fearless and creative style of play. He has all the qualities needed to succeed, he just needs the right hand to guide him. It will definitely be worth keeping an eye on his progress at the Rowdies.

He may be the youngest player to start in an MLS game and indeed to represent his country, but after barely being good enough to make the starting eleven for a reserve team in the Finnish fourth division, a league as reputable as a 5 vs 5 between some camels and chickens, Adu will have a chip on his shoulder and this may well be his last shot at working his way to the top. Started from the bottom..he’s still at the bottom, but we here.
