Last night the world was shaken by some of the most controversial news in the NFL off-season. Once again it comes from the City of brotherly love as the Eagles reportedly sign Tim Tebow to an already crowded Quarterback Roster. There are a million questions flying around the Linc right now. Will he make it out of training camp? Will he start ahead of Bradford? What happens to Sanchez or Barkley? Is it just trade bait? Does this mark the end of the quest for Mariota?
Let’s say that Chip signed him as a starter, regardless of what happens to Sanchez, Bradford and Barkley, Tebow starts in week one. Here are three reasons that this is still a better option than Bradford.
3. Pass Option Professional
If Tebow can finally find a home and success in any system in the NFL, it is Chip Kelly’s. Kelly likes to set himself challenges of reviving a fallen gladiator to a better place than they were before and one of Tebow’s previous talents was running the ball. He was lethal in two point conversions, a dangerous piece on the board no matter the play. If you look at one of the only real flaws of Foles’ time in Philly, it was his inability to slide when needed or crumble under pressure. Imagine if Mike Vick had a slightly slower, taller, meatier older brother and you get Tim Tebow. The thing that makes this offense so dangerous is the unpredictability. Tebow handing off to Murray, faking it, running down the sideline? It could happen, it could happen often, it could work often.
2. Work Rate
No one works as hard as Tebow. It’s a fact. The man has been out of NFL action for a while now and despite being mocked in the media for trying to revive his career, has not stopped training. After re-evaluating his skill set and “mechanics” Tebow could well be a re-invented man. His dedication knows no limit, just look at his training videos if you don’t believe us. Someone of Tim’s mindset is only going to benefit a team, especially when he is a leader both on and off the field.
1. The City of Second Chances
This is the city that gave Ex Atlanta Falcon, “the human video game” Mike Vick a place of resurrection. Love him or hate him, Michael Vick found a home in Philadelphia and became the face of a franchise. Now obviously Tebow is in a completely different scenario but after showing flashes of brilliance in a career overshadowed by inconsistency, Kelly has seen something. Chip seems to like the idea of bringing in players most people would shrug their shoulders at and turning them into superstars, almost like a side project. It’s like buying a beaten up car from the 80’s and turning it into a beautiful version of its former self. Tebow may well get cut after the practice camp but who’s to say this isn’t the future of Philly? Why can’t a man so faithful to God and one who has so much self belief make it in the NFL? What if this is the chance he needs? Everything happens for a reason and if you go back and watch some game film, it wouldn’t be that hard to imagine him in the up tempo Kelly offense. I’m not saying he’s the saviour of Philadelphia, I’m saying Philadelphia could be the saviour of Tim Tebow.
