The Philadelphia Eagles have revealed their team captains ahead of next weeks’ season-opener against the Dallas Cowboys. For a team filled with such strong leadership, picking out a few names as captains is far from easy, but it’s great to see some new names in the mix here.
Saquon Barkley (1st season as captain with Eagles)
Following one of the most incredible rushing seasons in NFL history, Saquon Barkley was always going to be looked at as a dominant player, but his qualities off the field is what makes him a great selection as captain.
We all remember when Sirianni pulled the former Giants’ RB out of a game against his former team, being only 14 yards away from a personal-best single-game rushing tally. Sirianni spoke with Saquon on the sidelines to get his input, and Barkley was more than happy to let the younger backs eat.
A brilliant player and a teammate who has exuded selflessness from day one, this is a great pick.
Zack Baun (1st season as captain with Eagles)
Zack Baun’s breakout year was phenomenal to watch, and he now enters 2025 as the leader of the pack. Beneath him on the depth chart is a plethora of young players, and with Baun the oldest in the room, the veteran leadership he’s banked on to bring has only been further reinforced with this pick.
Reed Blankenship (1st season)
Blankenship has been one of Philadelphia’s unsung heroes of the last few years. From an undrafted free agent, to a Super Bowl champion, an entrenched starter, and now a team captain. Reed too is in a similar spot to Baun, where he’s very much the veteran in a young room, with the likes of Sydney Brown and Andrew Mukuba looking to learn from his experience.
The other team captains need no introduction by now and are as follows:
Jalen Hurts (5th season), Lane Johnson (4th season), Jake Elliott (4th season), A.J. Brown (3rd season), Jordan Mailata (2nd season)
