As a way to honor 25 years since the Sixers’ amazing run to the NBA Finals on the shoulders of Hall of Famer and Philadelphia 76ers legend, Allen Iverson, it was announced in June that Philly would be getting a “Classic Edition” jersey for the 2025-26 season. The black 2001 jersey design, worn by one of the franchise’s greatest players and an icon across the league, will be added to the jersey rotation this season.

After speculation about what else might be done with the special edition jerseys with the classic Nike logo and streaking basketball underneath the iconic “Sixers” font, new photos of the court they will be playing on when donning the jerseys at Xfinity Mobile Arena have emerged.

This jersey had been teased several times: when they honored Tyrese Maxey after he signed his extension, through social media, and through various leaks and reporting online. Rumors about the alternate jerseys coming back ran rampant over the summer, with reports from Basketball Jersey Archive coming in early August with photos of the shorts.

They were further fueled by the Sixers themselves, when their 2025-26 schedule reveal was released with a video featuring clips of current players, as well as stars from that 2000-01 roster.

Considered one of the most nostalgic jerseys from the late 90’s, early 2000’s, current and future 76ers greats will get to introduce a new generation of fans to the memorable style of the Iverson-led Sixers. Many new fans may even be able to find the jersey in their dad’s closets (like my son can), ready to go down to South Philadelphia.

Sixers new court – the differences

It seems there are some slight differences between that court and the one fans will see for the upcoming season. The awesome blue color in the paint and at center court will be replaced with a jet black look. That blue color became an alternate uniform color for that era of 76ers basketball

It also seems “PHILADELPHIA” will be along the side court, differing slightly from the classic look. I do like the different color wood inside the three-point arc, with the two-toned wood across the court giving a more modern look while still embracing the nostalgia the rest of the design intends to invoke.

Call it fan service if you want – that’s what it is. Sixers fans have been begging for this jersey to make a comeback. We are one step closer. When the jerseys are finally released, they will be a tough purchase to track down. Expect no one to be able to keep them in stock. Having the court to match just builds excitement and will likely boost pre-order numbers, putting an early exclamation point on the long-anticipated return.

Minor changes aside, the court looks awesome and should get those whose excitement was teetering back leaning in the positive direction. At the end of the day, the team needs to perform for the fans to fully buy-in, but the off-season is about building excitement however you can. It’s almost here.
