The Eagles are never done when it comes to strengthening their roster. Adam Schefter posted a report on X late on Sunday evening, citing that the Jaguars are trading OT Fred Johnson to the Birds in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round pick.
Johnson spent two full seasons with the Eagles after signing with the team late in 2022. He would go on to start 6 games in 2024 after proving his worth in the previous offseason, playing at both ends of the offensive front. Prior to that, he had experience starting at both interior and exterior spots for Cincinnati, where he started his career, before a brief stint in Tampa bay.
The veteran offensive lineman isn’t an elite-level starter by any means, but depth is thin for the Eagles. Kendall Lamm was hardly convincing in preseason and the remaining players are mostly young guns still honing their craft.
Being able to bring back Johnson for a late-round selection in next years’ draft makes a ton of sense. He’s already familiar with many of the players on the roster, especially the ever-stable offensive line, and gives the Eagles a familiar face they can lean on in a pinch should Lane Johnson or Jordan Mailata pick up a knock. His experience at guard also alleviates some of the stress on the backup positions at interior spots too.
