After MLS Matchday 29, the Philadelphia Union are no longer the leaders of the Eastern Conference and Supporters’ Shield.

Following a 1-0 loss to the New York Red Bulls last Saturday, the Union’s first loss to the Red Bulls since 2019, they now sit in 2nd place in the East. FC Cincinnati currently sits atop the East, while San Diego FC sits atop the Western Conference and Supporters’ Shield standings.

The Union also doesn’t have an easy slate over the next few weeks. They face the Chicago Fire on Saturday, FC Cincinnati next Saturday, and then the Vancouver Whitecaps on Sept. 13.

Looking elsewhere around MLS, Orlando City will travel to Nashville for a Saturday night tilt. Both clubs are level with 47 points. Nashville sits 3rd in the East, and Orlando is 4th.

Charlotte FC and the New York Red Bulls will highlight Sunday Night Soccer. Charlotte is sitting 7th in the East with 44 points, just one point back from the Columbus Crew and Inter Miami, and the Red Bulls sit in 10th with 39 points, level with the Chicago Fire.

It’s hard to believe we are already at Matchday 30. As August slowly draws to a close, we’ll see which clubs are for real and which ones are just pretenders.
