The Eagles’ cornerback competition just got a little more crowded and a little more intriguing.
Philadelphia is acquiring second-year corner Jakorian Bennett from the Las Vegas Raiders in exchange for defensive tackle Thomas Booker IV, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The deal is pending physicals on both sides.
The Raiders get Booker. He is a versatile piece on the interior Defensive line. A 2022 fifth-rounder by the Texans, Booker appeared in all 17 games (one start), totaling 18 tackles, 2 TFLs, and a sack.
Who are the Eagles getting?
Bennett, a 2023 fourth-round pick out of Maryland, arrives in Philly looking to carve out a role in a wide-open battle for outside corner reps opposite Quinyon Mitchell. With Darius Slay gone, the Eagles have rotated Adoree’ Jackson and Kelee Ringo with the first team, but no one has pulled ahead. As DC Vic Fangio put it this week: “It’s close.”
Now, add Bennett to the mix. A tough, fast outside corner who showed real flashes in Vegas while playing through a torn labrum. He played in 24 games (11 starts) for the Raiders, notching eight pass breakups last year. Back healthy for the first time since college, Bennett is hoping to carve out a role with the Philadelphia Eagles.
August is Howie SzN
It is worth noting that Jakorian Bennett was selected one spot ahead of Kelee Ringo in the 2023 NFL Draft. Could Howie Roseman have had his eyes on him back then? Either way, for Philly, Bennett is a low-risk bet on upside and a potential dark horse in Fangio’s still-unclaimed secondary.
The Eagles currently have Quinyon ‘Qionyonamo Bay’ on one side, adding Jakorian ‘Bennettentiary’ Bennett on the other has a ring to it.
