On Monday afternoon, the Philadelphia Union and U.S. Soccer announced that the US Women’s National Team will return to the Philadelphia area on October 23rd to take on team Portugal at Subaru Park as part of the USWNT’s October window.

The match at Subaru Park will kick off the first of 3 fixtures the USWNT have scheduled for their October window, with the other two scheduled for October 26th at Pratt & Whitney Stadium at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut against Portugal, and October 29th, the USWNT’s first ever match CPKC Stadium in Kansas City, MO, against an opponent TBD.

USWNT Retirees to Remember

It will be the USWNT’s first time back in the Philadelphia area since 2022, when they beat Uzbekistan by a score of 9-0 in Chester, PA. It will serve as a retirement ceremony for prolific goal scorer Alex Morgan, who scored the first of her 123 International goals at Subaru Park back on October 6th of 2010, almost 15 years ago. Morgan played 11 years in NWSL, won 2 World Cups with the USWNT, and claimed the Silver Boot in the 2019 World Cup when she scored 6 goals and 3 assists.

Alyssa Naeher, Connecticut native and one of the best goalkeepers in USWNT history, will celebrate her retirement before the match against Portugal in East Hartford on October 26th. Naeher put together an 11-year career in the NWSL and became the league’s all-time leader in saves and appearances by a goalkeeper back in 2023. Naeher won two World Cups with the USWNT, and now ranks third all-time in caps, wins, and shutouts for a goalkeeper in U.S. history.

As part of the celebration for the retiring USWNT stars, limited-edition collectable bobbleheads of each player will be available to the first 2,000 fans through the gates of Subaru Park and Pratt & Whitney Stadium at their respective matches.

Philadelphia continues to be a Destination for big soccer matches

The October fixture at Subaru Park for the USWNT is another example of Philadelphia becoming a preferred destination for important soccer matches on a global scale. Philadelphia hosted 8 games during this Summer’s FIFA Club World Cup, which brought passionate and energetic fans from all over the world to the city of Brotherly Love, all in the name of soccer.

On Saturday, August 2nd, Eintracht Frankfurt—Bundesliga side and current home of former Philadelphia Union homegrown Paxten Aaronson—will visit Subaru Park to face off against the Blue and Gold in a friendly that hopes to spark interest in the German league among passionate Philly fans. This will prove that minds outside the Tri-State region view Philadelphia as a hotbed ready to be cultivated.

And of course, in just under a year from now, Philadelphia and Lincoln Financial Field will be set to host 6 matches on the biggest stage of them all during the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
