The Philadelphia Eagles donned pads for the first time during their 2025 Training Camp today, and while hitting was still rightly limited, a longer practice in some scorching conditions presented a new challenge to this years’ crop of players.
Eagles injury report
The injury report saw some new additions today. Rookie S Andrew Mukuba joined Zack Baun, DeVonta Smith, and Nolan Smith alongside Danny Gray as those missing practice.
Mukuba has now missed two back-to-back practices, affording Sydney Brown some extra looks, while there are no urgent updates surrounding the other players listed. Bumps and bruises are very much a part of the game, especially in the Summer, so Philadelphia choosing to be wise in protecting some of their more prominent players makes a lot of sense.
There was a scare for newly-signed WR Terrace Marshall today, however. The former Panthers wideout turned heads at the beginning of camp but suffered an apparent leg injury during Tuesday’s practice. Hopefully it’s nothing too serious and he’s back on the field soon.
A new underdog wid receiver?
Speaking of wide receivers, one wideout looks insistent on continuing the trend of Summer underdogs to fight their way onto the roster. Paul Turner, Greg Ward, and now maybe Elijah Cooks. After going undrafted in 2023 and spending two years with the Jags, Cooks joined the Eagles ahead of the new season and has made a big play in a string of practices now. Preseason will absolutely be his time to shine, and some having extra bodies at the position who could also contribute on special teams is never a bad thing.
Getting up to speed
After it was reported that rookie linebacker Jihaad Campbell struggled against the run in yesterday’s practice, the Alabama product got right back to work and showed his value against the pass. Being so ahead of where many thought he would be, Campbell has plenty of time to properly get up to speed and iron out the kinks, but he’s made more positive plays than negative in general since his arrival on the scene. The first-round pick figures to be a key component of Fangio’s defense in year one.
Elsewhere, we saw Nakobe Dean putting in some individual work away from the crowds. John McMullen caught this video of Dean doing sprints with a sled. The Georgia product is currently on the Eagles’ PUP list, but with this being such a big year for him alongside the depth chart now being stacked, you can bet your bottom dollar that he will be fighting to get back to full health as soon as possible.
Ringo’s push to be a Star(r)
Kelee Ringo took to the field as the second starting CB alongside Quinyon Mitchell today for only the second time this Summer. A report from The Eagles Wire suggests that Adoree Jackson is far ahead of the young defensive back, but there’s still a long way to go, and the Birds seem intent on affording him opportunities to prove his worth as a starting corner. And let’s face it, there is no better proving ground than getting reps against one of the strongest receiving groups in the entire league.
QB2 Battle unfurling
Every day it feels like we see some big plays from both Tanner McKee and Dorian Thompson-Robinson. Will this QB battle be more cinematic than The Rock vs John Cena at Wrestlemania? No, but to those die-hard Eagles fans who LOVE preseason, seeing two young quarterbacks leave it all on the turf in a bid to secure the #2 spot behind Jalen Hurts is certainly enticing, and the two signal-callers seem pretty even through the opening week of camp.
