The Philadelphia Flyers‘ sixth overall 2025 draft pick Porter Martone will be going to Michigan State for the 2025-2026 season.

A lot of Flyers fans are displeased with the decision of Martone as they believe he should’ve tried to make the team and or play with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. All though schools such as Penn State, Boston University, and Boston College have great colligate hockey programs, Michigan’s isn’t far off with having some notable names such as Jeff Petry and Mason Appleton.

The main objective for the Flyers with the rebuild is to grow the young core into top NHL players, by Martone going the NCAA route, which is more competitive than it gets credit for will help him develop those skills that will make him NHL ready next season.
