Major League Baseball announced the full rosters for the 2025 MLB All-Star Game on Sunday night during the All-Star Selection show live on ESPN. Zack Wheeler and Kyle Schwarber were named the Phillies’ representatives for the All-Star Game, to be played on July 15 in Atlanta, Ga.

Wheels up to Atlanta

Hours after pitching a 28-batter complete game against the Cincinnati Reds, Zack Wheeler has been announced an All-Star for the third time in his career. Wheeler already earned the NL Pitcher of the Month award for June after allowing only two earned runs in 31.0 innings of work on the month. Wheeler leads the NL with 148 strikeouts and a minuscule 0.81 WHIP.

“That was as dominant as you’re going to get, other than a perfect game,” said Rob Thomson on Sunday. “One base runner, first pitch strikes. Strike percentage was way up there. He just, he amazes me.”

Originally from Smyrna, Ga., 20 minutes northwest of Atlanta, Wheeler will return to his hometown to pitch on one of Major League Baseball’s largest stages.

His previous two All-Star nods came in 2021 and 2024. In both seasons, Wheeler placed second in the NL Cy Young Award vote behind Corbin Burnes and Chris Sale, respectively. Perhaps the third time is the charm for the Phillies’ ace of aces?

Schwarber Sent to Georgia

On the offensive side, Kyle Schwarber will represent the Phillies in Atlanta. Schwarber’s 27 home runs are the fifth-most in the Major Leagues this season. Schwarber is behind breakout catcher Cal Raleigh and known power-hitters Aaron Judge, Shohei Ohtani, and Eugenio Suárez thus far. His plate discipline is not to be trifled with as well as he has accumulated 64 walks this season, the fourth-most in the league.

After hitting 19 home runs through the month of May, Schwarber appeared to have slowed down a bit in his normally busy month of June, hitting only six home runs on the month. Since the calendar turned to July, however, Schwarber has turned on the heat, hitting two home runs in the past five games.

“He does a lot of things for this club other than slugging and getting on base,” Thomson said on Sunday per Philly Sports Networks’s Kyle Fisher. “He’s a great teammate, great in the clubhouse. He’s one of the team leaders. I mean, he had a huge hit today off a tough left-hander that he struggled with in the past and he’s a tough one to tie the game. So, yeah, I love all these guys.”

Schwarber will return to the All-Star game for the first time since 2022. He had earned back-to-back All-Star accolades in 2021 and 2022.

Potential Snubs

Not on the list of All-Stars are the trio of Ranger Suárez, Cristopher Sánchez, and Trea Turner.

A lot has been said about Wheeler’s strong month of June, but Suárez and Sánchez stood tall with Wheeler every step of the way. The Philadelphia triumvirate combined for a 1.27 ERA over 16 starts on the month, striking out a combined 111 batters.

Turner, meanwhile, has recorded the most hits (109) in the National League so far this season. A mainstay at the top of the Phillies’ lineup, Turner is batting .299 on the year with 11 home runs.

“I’m a little disappointed because we have a bunch of other guys that are deserving to be there,” said Thomson. “And maybe they’ll get there with people, you know, not wanting to go or can’t pitch or whatever.”

One more potential All-Star

There remains one additional All-Star that fans can vote for. Adam Crognale, the Phillies’ Ball Boy, is up for All-Star nomination. One of four to be nominated this year, fans can vote for the Phillies’ unspoken hero, the vote closes on July 8 at 11:59 p.m.
