Flyers

Danny Briere spoke to reporters following round one of the NHL Draft. It was an exciting night for the Flyers and there was certainly a lot to recap.

Porter Martone was the sixth overall pick and the player that Briere and team wanted due to his size and playmaking ability. Briere also stated that other teams were interested in the Flyers’ sixth overall pick. Martone mentioned earlier in the night that he models elements of his game around the likes of fotmer Flyers Wayne Simmonds, Claude Giroux, and Scott Laughton. Briere commented “He likes to yap like Konecny.” He also mentioned Giroux was a yapper as well.”

Briere confirmed that Jack Nesbitt was a player who he wanted, and the stunning trade with Pittsburgh shows just how much. The move saw Philadelphia’s 22nd and 31st overall picks traded to shoot up the board and snag the big center at #12.

Brierre knew that he was going to go off the market soon after the Flyers made their first selection at #6 since centers were the hot target in this years draft.

Briere talked about his restless night and even nap attempt during the day due to the anticipation of the draft. He said if he knew the outcome of the draft he would’ve slept much better.

When It comes to the second round Briere was stern that the Flyers wouldn’t get rid of their picks. “We feel going into tomorrow 36 and 40 will be pretty powerful.” – Danny Briere
