With the 35th pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers select Johni Broome, out of Auburn University.

Standing just over 6-foot-9 with a 7-foot-0.5 wingspan, Broome led Auburn to a Final Four appearance against Florida, the eventual NCAA Tournament champions. During the 2024-25 season, Broome averaged 18.6 points, 10.8 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.1 blocks, and 0.9 steals and was named the 2025 SEC Player of the Year.

Broome’s combined performance, in terms of the strength and agility testing, but performed admirably in the shooting drills.

A super senior, that is a five-year senior, Broome began his collegiate career with Moorehead State before transferring to Auburn ahead of the 2022-2023 season. In all but his second season at Moorehead State, Broome led his team to an NCAA Tournament appearance, highlighted by last year’s Final Four appearance.

In Broome, the Sixers are getting a tenacious big who understands the physicality needed for winning basketball. Philadelphia’s need to improve as a rebounding team was clear as crystal last season. Over his five-year collegiate career, Broome has averaged an impressive 9.5 rebounds per game.

Drawing comparisons to Philadelphia native Marcus Morris, Broome uses his size to punish opponents in the interior while being able to keep opponents honest when outside the arc, though his three-point accuracy remains a potential area of improvement. Like Morris, Broome is also a capable passer out of the high post, a key ability for a big man to ensure a fluid offense.

The Sixers have little talent at the power forward position. While the offseason has yet to commence fully, Johni Broome will have every opportunity for minutes early in his career.
