In a shocking turn of events, Ace Bailey, one of the premier prospects in the 2025 NBA Draft, has canceled his upcoming workout with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Bailey was scheduled to fly out on Thursday, June 19, to meet with members of the Sixers’ front office and also participate in a private workout, but late Wednesday night, word came down that Bailey would not be flying to Philadelphia, as reported by ESPN draft expert, Jonathan Givony.
Givony did not list a reason why Bailey canceled the trip, but it has frequently been reported that Bailey’s camp has consistently informed interested teams that they believe he is a top-3 player in the draft. According to 6ABC’s Jason Dumas, Bailey was seeking a promise from Philadelphia ahead of the meeting, something they were apparently unwilling to do.
Bailey has reported declined invitations from multiple teams in his draft range, which, according to Givony, is considered to be anywhere from 3 to 8, and he has now stiffed the Sixers.
Philadelphia may not be holding it against him, though, as Givony also reports that the Sixers are still considering Bailey with the third overall pick. Bailey would, in that case, be one of four prospects that the Sixers have reportedly narrowed their sights on.
Philadelphia previously worked out Baylor Wing VJ Edgecombe, who reportedly made quite the impression on the Sixers. NBA Insider Jake Fischer first reported the workout via The Stein Line last Wednesday, June 11.
“Edgecombe is said to have impressed with his work ethic, personality and interviews,” Fischer reported via The Stein Line.
With the NBA Draft less than a week away, time is running out for the Sixers to make its decision. However, one has to wonder if Bailey just made that decision a bit easier for Philadelphia.
