With little more than two weeks until the NBA Draft, the Philadelphia 76ers have lost a core member of their front office team.

ESPN’s Shams Charania announced Monday that Sixers executive Peter Dinwiddie would be leaving Philadelphia to join the Atlanta Hawks as a senior vice president of strategy and analytics. This move comes alongside the addition of New Orleans Pelicans GM Bryson Graham as the team’s senior vice president of basketball operations.

Dinwiddie joined the Sixers in October of 2020 as the team’s Executive Vice President of Basketball Operations and has been a critical member of the organization under Daryl Morey’s tenure. The long-time executive has earned league-wide respect for his work, which includes a 14-year stint with the Indiana Pacers’ organization, primarily as the team’s Director of Basketball Administration.

The move comes at an inconvenient time for the Sixers, who are 16 days away from potentially making the third pick in the upcoming draft, the team’s highest selection in eight years, but there’s no path but forward from here. Replacing Dinwiddie won’t be easy, but it must be done if the team hopes to rebound from a disastrous 2024-25 season.

The Atlanta Hawks, now with Dinwiddie as a part of the team, will look to make a major push in a significantly wounded Eastern Conference next season. Behind four-time All-Star Trae Young and promising players like Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels and Zaccharie Risacher, there is plenty of potential building in Atlanta.
