The Bryce Huff era in Philadelphia has already come to an end. The Eagles are reportedly set to trade the former Jets defensive end to the San Francisco 49ers.

Eagles to trade Bryce Huff to San Francisco

Huff was originally signed in free agency of last offseason, penning a 3-year deal worth $51M with the Eagles on the back of a breakout season with the Jets. However, his first season in the City of Brotherly Love didn’t go to plan.

With the Jets, Huff was used as a rotational pass-rusher, and he struggled to make the jump into a full-time role with the Birds, before injuries ultimately derailed his campaign. it’s clear that Howie Roseman was banking on the potential for Huff to grow over multiple years, but if that faith has been squandered, cutting him loose before that contract gets nasty makes a lot of sense.

Huff will reunite with former Jets coach Robert Saleh, who coached him to that 10-sack season back in 2023.

The Eagles have already mitigated the loss of Bryce Huff, having signed Josh Uche and Azeez Ojulari this offseason, before going onto draft some potentially useful rookies in the way of Antwaun Powell-Ryland and Smael Mondon, who while technically a linebacker, showed flashes of explosiveness rushing the quarterback during his time at Georgia.

We don’t yet know what the Eagles are getting in return for Bryce Huff, but the main takeaway is that if Howie’s opinion has changed, escaping a gargantuan contract early is a good sign.
