The Philadelphia Flyers announced that former head coach of the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Ian Laperriere, would take on a new role as advisor to Flyers’ GM Danny Briere and President of Hockey Operations, Keith Jones.

Ian Lapperriere’s new role with the Flyers

Lapperriere spent the last four years as head coach with the Phantoms. He has taken on other roles in the past with the Flyers that date back to 2011. Briere stated, “I want to thank Ian for his tireless work in Lehigh Valley for the last four seasons. “He not only led the Phantoms in return to the playoffs but also provided crucial development to several of our prospects. I am excited to welcome him back to the Flyers so he can continue providing insight into helping our team as we enter the next rebuild phase.”

While the Phantoms will search for a new head coach this offseason, the impact “Lappy” has on the prospects was truly one of the bright spots of the past couple of disappointing seasons with the franchise. The Flyers are clearly taking the rebuild seriously with moving parts, not only with the NHL squad but also with the Phantoms. While there are no names rumored to come to Lehigh, with this most recent move, it seems as if there is a plan in motion.
