One of the biggest question marks heading into the Philadelphia Eagles’ 2025 season will be how well OC Kevin Patullo does in his new role. Last year, an experienced play-caller was given the reins, and most fans felt comfortable with the transition. This season bears similarities to 2023, when the job was handed over to someone with no prior experience in that regard, and some in the fanbase were anxious. But to be clear, this is far different than 2023 when Brian Johnson had little experience in the NFL when he was promoted to OC. Kevin brings a wealth of knowledge and familiarity with the players to the job!
The Resume
Patullo’s first job in the NFL was with the Kansas City Chiefs back in 2007. He was hired as their offensive assistant quality control coach.
His next stop in the NFL was with the Bills, and the first two seasons in Buffalo were in a similar role to the one served in KC, but his third year was as an Offensive assistant and assistant wide receivers coach.
Patullo then moved to the Titans as their wide receivers coach, and further on to the Jets as a Quarterbacks coach. The carousel kept turning and the experience kept building as he moved back to wide receivers with the Colts, and in his final year with Indy, became the passing game specialist.
This is the same job he was hired to do in 2021 with the Eagles. Brian Johnson’s first job in the NFL was with the Eagles. Kevin takes over the job with a lot more on his resume. He has also worked with Nick for eight seasons. And that continuity matters.
Philly Experience
Nick Sirianni indicated that Kevin had been leaned on to make important decisions during his tenure in Philadelphia, stating the play-calling was not just the job of former OC Kellen Moore but, rather, was a collaboration between Nick, Kellen, and their new OC.
“He’s been very important to the success we’ve had. He wears a lot of different hats. Helps me a lot with different head coaching things and I can’t tell you I make a decision without saying to Kevin first, ‘Whattya think?’ – Nick Sirianni
Patullo also designed plays, helped shape the original staff with Nick, and brings the experience of having worked for 6 NFL franchises, including 10 years of experience at the NFL level before working with the Super Bowl-winning Head Coach in Indianapolis.

In addition to the continuity and the advantage of moving forward with a similar offense that they can dissect and improve upon, as opposed to everyone, including QB Jalen Hurts, having to learn an entirely new system. Kevin is also bringing a lot of fresh ideas.
Patullo has spent years working tirelessly as a game planner and designing plays. The difference will be that he is choosing from the play sheet that the team designs for each game situation during the week. The Eagles and Patullo are both confident he will be able to succeed in the new role. Kevin relishes the opportunity.
Eagles embracing the change
The Eagles overcame the Chiefs in the Super Bowl despite KC strategizing to stop Saquon Barkey and forcing the Eagles into more of a passing offense. They were successful in that game, but the NFL is a copycat league, and most teams will attempt some variation of that same game plan moving forward. One of Patullo’s biggest challenges will be to overcome those attempts and keep the offense fresh and unpredictable. A.J. Brown echoed those same sentiments.
“It has to change; it has to evolve. I don’t know what wrinkles would look like, but we have to find ways to get better, you know? It’s a lot of fame out there on us — we just won — and guys are gonna be coming at us. We’re not the hunting anymore, we’re the hunted, and we have to get better.”
Support
“There’s some nuances that are different. I know in the past, I gave a number on that matter. But things evolve and things change as time goes on. We’re just really bought into that. That’s an important thing. That’s something that I’ve learned as well, that you have to be able to evolve as time goes on. You have to be able to decode, detect and then correct and refine the things you need to refine.

I think the more important thing is being able to detect what I can improve on and how important it is to improve in that. We can all work hard in something but not necessarily be working hard in the right thing. We were able to evolve and add a different dynamic obviously with having 2–6 back there and what he’s able to do.” Jalen Hurts
Nick discussed that regardless of who the Eagles’ OC is, Jalen’s approach does not change.
Jordan Mailata discussing the new Eagles Offensive Coordinator, Kevin Patullo
“Great communicator. Very detailed, very open, very approachable, so it makes it easy for us to come to him with ideas.”
Final Thoughts
The Eagles are coming off a Super Bowl win and are riding high. The team is optimistic regarding the 2025 season. The franchise and the players in the locker room have confidence in Kevin Patullo and are excited for what he will do with the offense.
Patullo has the advantage of having watched firsthand the previous offenses over his four years in Philadelphia and believes he knows how to extrapolate the best parts and get a winning product on the field. The trepidation that usually comes with a new coordinator does not seem to be in the air at Nova Care. The feelings are positive, and now we all wait to see how high Kevin and the offense fly this season.
As always, thank you for reading!
