Head To Head

In 13 total matches between the Union and LA Galaxy, the Union have come away with 3 points on just one occasion, coming on the road back in 2012. With a record of 1W-3D-9L across those 13 matches, Galaxy have outscored the Union by a total of 30-11 during that span. The Union will look to break an 8 game winless streak against the Galaxy on Wednesday night.

Galaxy’s Season So Far

“We have our own mission, we have our own targets, objectives, we’re pushing each other every single day and I’ve always spoken about that regardless of opponent so I think this is a very similar message. Everyone is talking about trap games and what-have-you, and for sure that’s a potential trap game, and I think we’ve had our fair share of trap games so far this season”Bradley Carnell on the prospect of Wednesday’s match being a Trap Game

The Galaxy are off to the worst start by a reigning MLS Cup Champion in MLS history. Just half a year after reaching winning it all, the LA Galaxy have started the 2025 campaign with a record of 0W-3D-9L through the first 12 games for just 3 points, which has them leading the Wooden Spoon race just about 1/3 through the season.

With no Puig, Pec, or Paintsil available on Wednesday night due to injury, the Galaxy’s attack is severely stunted and doesn’t get much help from the defense behind them, which has allowed an MLS worst 28 goals this season.

After getting blown out by the Red Bulls in New Jersey this past weekend, the road ahead doesn’t get any easier for the Galaxy and Head Coach Greg Vanney, who undoubtedly is on the Hot Seat despite bringing the Galaxy to glory last Fall. The winless Galaxy will now travel down I95 to Chester on Wednesday night, before heading back to LA for an El Tráfico match with LAFC, still searching for their first win of the 2025 season.

Union’s Season So Far

“I think we’ve been more aggressive from Day 1. This season we’ve been who we are and that’s the result of the way we train, the way we play, the way we’re committing and the trusting part of it. We have to trust in our teammates ability to find me or to take the shot himself or to present me, the teammate, with a moment to score a goal.”Bradley Carnell on Union’s aggression in attack this season

The Union are off to their best start in team history through 13 games with a record of 7W-2D-3L for a total of 23 points, and if it weren’t for a last second Columbus goal on Saturday night, Union fans might have ended the weekend feeling like one of the best teams win Major League Soccer.

The Union come into Wednesday’s match sitting at 3rd place in the Eastern Conference and just 4 points off the Supporters Shield lead. Through their first 12 matches, Union have shown their ability to score goals in a number of ways, and have become one of the better defenses in the league while putting together a makeshift backline during a busy stretch of the season.

Union Predicted Starting XI

Bradley Carnell gave an update on Andre Blake on Tuesday afternoon, listing him as Questionable for Wednesday’s game due to some fluid build up in his knee.

“I think we’re still Questionable with [Andre Blake] for tomorrow’s appearance and we’re just trying to do everything around the clock to get him ready. There’s big games coming up and hopefully it’s not too much longer now…he’s just got some fluid build up in the knee” – Bradley Carnell on Andre Blake

If Blake can’t go on Wednesday, one has to wonder how comfortable him and the Union are with him returning the play on turf in Atlanta on Saturday or if that could mean he sits out for a bit longer to err on the side of caution.

Ian Glavinovich, who seems to be progressing well, hasn’t joined up with the rest of the team in training yet, so there’s no update on a return for him just yet.

Formation: 4-4-4-2

GK: Rick
RB: Mbaizo, CB: Glesnes, CB: Harriel, LB: Wagner
CDM: Danley, CDM: Bueno
CAM: Vassilev, CAM: Rafanello
ST: Baribo, ST: Uhre

“He’s a guy who is very close to being called upon. You can see when he’s training well and he has confidence with the group and he has confidence in himself – we closed the game out in Montreal because him and Bueno come in and really calm things down, we control the proceedings, we close the game – and through that he gains a lot of respect through his teammates and through [the coaching staff] as well.”Bradley Carnell on Jeremey Rafanello
