The Columbus Crew jumped back into first place in the Eastern Conference during MLS Matchday 11 with a 4-2 win over Charlotte FC. Also, the Philadelphia Union moved into second in the East after a 2-1 victory over CF Montreal. The Union are now off to their best start in club history.
Looking at the Western Conference, the Vancouver Whitecaps took down Real Salt Lake to continue their dominant season. Vancouver is sitting at the top of the West and the Supporters’ Shield standings with 26 points.
Here is a recap of some of the best matches from MLS Matchday 11:
Union off to best start in club history
Who would have thought that Bradley Carnell would propel the Union to their best start in club history during his first season as the head coach? Nobody.
The Union grabbed three points at the Stade Saputo on Saturday night to move into second in the East. Indiana Vassilev wasted no time putting the Union ahead in the match, scoring in the 2nd minute. Giacomo Vrioni equalized for Montreal in the 45+3′, but Mikael Uhre scored the winning goal for the Union in the 84th minute.
So many question marks surrounded the Union heading into this year, but they’re silencing all of the doubters.

Vancouver keeps foot on the gas
The Vancouver Whitecaps have been the story of the year in MLS and the Concacaf Champions Cup. They picked up another three points over Real Salt Lake to extend their lead at the top of the West.
Minnesota moves back into second in West
Minnesota United moved back into second in the West with a 3-0 win over Austin FC, who are now in sixth. Ilie Sanchez scored an own goal in the 22nd minute, and that just put Austin’s morale in the dumps.
Anthony Markanich doubled the lead in the 35th minute, and then Joaquin Pereyra put the match away in the 90+1′. Minnesota has been the team behind Vancouver for most of the year, and now they’re back in second.
Columbus moves back into first in East
A 4-2 win over Charlotte FC saw the Columbus Crew regain the top spot in the East. FC Cincinnati was in first after Matchday 10, but their state-rival is now in the lead.
Columbus had a 2-0 lead in the first half, but Charlotte scored in the 45+2′ to cut the lead down to one before the whistle. In the second half, Columbus scored twice more to pick up three points and got atop the East.
Miami gets back on track against Red Bulls
Inter Miami suffered their first loss during Matchday 10 against FC Dallas but got back on the right track during Matchday 11, taking down the New York Red Bulls.
Regaining Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi for the match, both players scored in the 4-1 win. Miami is sitting fourth in the East with 21 points, just three behind first-place Columbus.
