Sixers assistant coach Bobby Jackson has agreed to join the coaching staff of Sacramento Kings’ Head Coach Doug Christie for the upcoming NBA season, according to KCRA 3’s Sean Cunningham.
A report from NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype back in April suggested that changes could potentially be on the horizon for the Sixers coaching staff. At that time, we looked at the coaching staff from the top down and identified Jackson as the most likely candidate to make his exit. Twenty days later, the move became official.
Jackson’s ties to both Christie and Sacramento are lengthy and well-documented. Jackson was an elite sixth man with the Kings during his playing days, and after his retirement, he became an assistant coach with the Kings’ organization from 2011 to 2013. He returned to coach their G League affiliate, the Stockton Kings, from 2021 to 2023 before coming to Philadelphia.
Once the Kings removed Christie’s interim tag, making him their unquestioned Head Coach, the odds of Jackson moving on spiked. He was Christie’s teammate for 324 games. Christie has only played more NBA games alongside Vlade Divac and Peja Stojaković, and Jackson has only played more games with Stojaković.
While there are no more names on the Sixers’ coaching staff as likely to leave as Jackson was, there is also no guarantee that this will be the only member of the coaching staff to opt for a change of scenery this summer. Sixers’ Head Coach will now have to search for a replacement for Jackson and any other members of his staff who part ways with Philadelphia this summer.
