The Flyers’ worst-case scenario occurred at the 2025 NHL Draft Lottery. Philadelphia finished as a bottom-four team and had a 9.5% chance of getting the first overall. In a shocking turn of events, The New York Islanders amazingly surprised everyone, getting the first overall selection.
Flyers fall short of luck in NHL Draft lottery
The Islanders had a 3.5% chance of getting the first pick, finishing as the 10th worst team. Not only did the Islanders make a massive leap in the order, but so did the Utah Hockey Club, who finished as the 14th-worst team and jumped into the fourth overall spot. This pushed the Flyers back to the sixth overall draft pick, falling behind two sports from where they finished in the standings.
This was a big draft for the Flyers, and the team itself made a lot of sacrifices during the season to invest in the rebuild. Drawing back two sports is massive, as the 2025 draft class doesn’t have as much depth as previous years. The Flyers need a center. Danny Briere was going to talk to the media only if the Flyers won the lottery, which they did not. The draft order is as follows:
1.) New York Islanders 2.) San Jose 3.) Chicago 4.)Utah 5.) Nashville 6.) Philadelphia 7.) Boston 8.) Seattle 9.) Buffalo 10.) Anaheim 11.) Pittsburgh 12.) NY Rangers 13.) Detroit 14.) Columbus 15.) Vancouver 16.) Montreal from Calgary
The draft will take place on June 27th-2028.
