During his usual pregame press conference, Phillies manager Rob Thomson provided several injury updates.
Phillies injury updates
The Phillies have seemingly dodged a bullet with Cristopher Sánchez. Thomson said that he is good to go as Wednesday’s starter against the Nationals. The towering lefty has a 3.42 ERA in 26.1 IP this season with 33 strikeouts.
Speaking of lefties, Ranger Suárez should be back with the Phillies soon.
“He’s going to throw a bullpen here tomorrow,” said Thomson. The bullpen will determine the next steps for Ranger. If all things look good, he could be activated as soon as this week. Suárez has thrown 16.2 IP in 4 rehab starts. The Phillies have been cautious with his ramp-up.
The news was less positive on outfielder Brandon Marsh. “He’s seeing the doctor right now,” said Thomson. “He worked out today. If he’s cleared by the doctor, we’ll send him back out for a rehab assignment.”

Marsh experienced cramping in his right hamstring on Sunday. It’s the same leg in which he’s been rehabbing a strain. Marsh was hitting .182 with the IronPigs before the setback. Until further news, Johan Rojas will continue to get the bulk of playing time in center field.
After Rob Thomson teased a Triple-A promotion for prospect Andrew Painter, it was later clarified that he is remaining with Clearwater for at least his next start. On Thursday, he’s slated to go 4 innings/60 pitches. After that, he could see a move north with the warmer weather.
Since allowing 2 runs in his first appearance, Painter has pitched 6 innings in 2 games while striking out 7. He’s a consensus top-20 prospect and top-5 pitching prospect in all of baseball.
