While most Phillies fans were shaking off the 4-0 shutout loss in Chicago on Friday, Phillies GM Dave Dombrowski was busy tying up some transactional loose ends last night. Around midnight on Saturday morning, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reported a completed trade between the Phillies and the Minnesota Twins. Fan-favorite Kody Clemens will be headed to the Twins. On Saturday morning it was announced that the Phillies will be receiving cash considerations in exchange for the former fan favorite.

An additional name included in the Jan. 2023 trade with the Detroit Tigers involving Gregory Soto and Matt Vierling, Clemens became a Phillies cult hero as a bench contributor over 97 games. He finishes his current Phillies career with nine home runs and 31 RBIs over three seasons, including this clutch game-tying round-tripper in the 9th inning last September against Washington.

The four-year MLB veteran brings to Minnesota a .197 career batting average, 14 home runs, and 48 RBIs. The Twins lost outfielder Max Kepler to the Phillies in free agency this offseason, so the move to acquire Clemens helps to fill that void in the early MLB season. Shortly after the trade was announced, Clemens released a message on social media thanking Philadelphia for the memories over the past few seasons.
Thank you Philly! It was an amazing chapter in my book! Thankful for all the memories and relationships I’ve created over the past 3 seasons!

The Clemens-less Phillies return to action with a 4:05 pm EST start at iconic Wrigley Field this afternoon. Jesus Luzardo seeks his third win of the season for Philadelphia, while Chicago’s Ben Brown hopes to continue his strong start to the 2025 campaign.
