Ahead of the Phillies’ series finale in New York on Thursday, Philadelphia announced the return of Weston Wilson to the roster. Wilson was injured early in spring training but is set to make his season debut. He will immediately join the Phillies’ lineup this afternoon at Citi Field as the Phillies look to avoid the series sweep in Queens. Wilson has appeared in 48 games for Philadelphia over the last two seasons. The 29-year-old utility player brings a .288 batting average and a .375 on-base percentage to Rob Thompson’s lineup.
Phillies make an intriguing roster move
Prior to today’s game against the New York Mets, the Phillies returned INF/OF Weston Wilson from his rehab assignment with Lehigh Valley (AAA) and reinstated him from the 10-day IL. To make room for him on the 26-man roster, INF/OF Kody Clemens was designated for assignment.

In a corresponding move, infielder Kody Clemens was designated for assignment to Lehigh Valley. Therefore, every other MLB club has the opportunity to claim his contract and add Clemens to their 40-man roster over the next three business days.
If no team submits a claim, he can then be assigned to play for Lehigh Valley. The 29-year-old big leaguer was used as a late-inning replacement, appearing in seven games for the Phillies. Clemens is a 4-year MLB veteran with a .197 batting average, 14 home runs, and 48 RBIs over 153 games, including 97 contests for Philadelphia over the last three seasons. Clemens is most well-known for his bases-loaded walk-off single last season against Tampa Bay.
The Phils and the Mets finish their three-game series at Citi Field on Thursday afternoon. Philadelphia travels to historic Wrigley Field to finish the road trip this weekend.
